YouTube is testing Lite subscription again, but don’t celebrate too early

Experimental phase

When Google indicated that it would discontinue Lite in the Netherlands and Belgium, it immediately said that it was still working on Lite versions of its Premium subscription and that now appears to be no empty promise. It is not being tested here, but it is being tested in Australia, Germany and Thailand, writes Android Authority. This means that there is a chance that we will hopefully be able to get rid of advertisements in the Netherlands sometime next year.

The experiments with this subscription are not new: apparently this trial already started at the beginning of this year in Australia, where the subscription costs 8.99 Australian dollars (5.57 euros). We expect that when the subscription returns in the Netherlands, it will be one euro more expensive than it was, but that is just guessing.

At the same time, it doesn’t have to be that way. A price increase would not be surprising with the old subscription, but the new Lite gives it a slightly different twist. After all, something has to change, otherwise YouTube could have kept the old subscription. The previous version of Premium Lite was ad-free, but in the new version you do have some advertising to watch. For example, music content and Shorts are provided with advertisements, as are non-disruptive advertisements while you scroll through YouTube. It seems that the advertisements are gone on longer YouTube videos, both before and during: good news, especially if the price of Lite does not become much higher than it was.
